A Reverse Revelation – Float and Ledger Fishing abandoned. – More experiments.
The second week of June, mainly dry with bright sunshine between one slight rain shower during the day, but with a blustery wind. Mid-day temperatures have dropped from the low thirties the week before last week to be continually under twenty with today being fourteen. Air pressure has slowly dropped thirty points from a high of thousand-and-thirty, down to a thousand last week and back up to a thousand and ten today. We live in a time of change. Two fishing trips ago we (mainly Bampa) suffered in the heat of the hottest May day since nineteen-forty-two. Our last trip, only just inside June, was windy. Since then, we have suffered high winds and rain giving the impression that the transition from spring to summer may never happen. The weather is not all that has changed over the last couple of months. A Revelation – Float and Ledger Fishing, with a Twist, Part One of Two. Mid-May, water still way less than twelve degrees, heavy showers, but overcast / bright sunshine through the day. After weeks of increasing temperatures, a cold, east wind changed to one from the south-west in the afternoon. Morning temperatures around four degrees Celsius. Air pressure just under ten-ten. While I had always been fine with my two method feeders, rod pod and two alarms, Bampa convinced me that alarms were unnecessary, and because we had bait runner reels, the whirring of a spool was enough to alert us to bites without disturbing the peace of the countryside, and/or the peace of other anglers. In fact, although alarms were allowed on the Cadoxton Ponds that we’d recently started fishing, bait runner reels were insisted upon there. We wondered why until we witnessed a fellow angler (on a different pond) lose both rod and reel to a particularly strong and quick fish. The change to ‘bait runner only’ wa
